PRAXIS II Information and Test Dates

The Praxis II is designed to assess qualifications of prospective teachers. Sections make up a Core Battery containing three tests: the Test of General Knowledge, the Test of Communication Skills, and the Test of Professional Knowledge. General Knowledge (GK) tests fundamental understanding of general principles know to the average well-educated person. Communication Skills (CS) test the ability to retain and interpret spoken and written messages and the ability to recognize and to communicate effectively in standard written English. And, finally, Professional Knowledge (PK) tests classroom management, evaluations, instruction, professional foundations, and professional functions.

The NTE is a Teacher Certification requirement in many states, though some states don't require all tests. The following is a list of states which require the NTE, with the test required noted. All: Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Virginia. GK, CS: New Jersey. GK, PK: Ohio. CS: District of Columbia. PK: Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, and South Carolina. The NTE is administered several times a year a various locations around the world.

What is a passing score on the NTE? If you are taking one of the Core Battery tests because it is required for teacher certification in your state, the most useful information you could have would be the value of the qualifying score used by the teacher certifying agency in your state and your chances of achieving that score. Information about state qualifying scores or institutional requirements, which are determined by the state agencies and institutions, is best obtained directly form them.
