SAT* Information and Test Dates

The SAT*, a standardized test owned and published by the College Entrance Examination Board and required by many colleges and universities, attempts to compare the preparation and ability of college applicants from different backgrounds. The test is split into two parts, the SAT I and the SAT II. The SAT I (generally referred to simply as The SAT) is a multiple-choice test made up of verbal ability questions -- sentence completions, analogies and critical reading -- and math ability questions -- discrete quantitative, quantitative comparisons, and student-produced responses. These verbal and mathematical abilities are designed to indicate, for the benefit of college admissions offices, how well a student may perform academically in college. The SAT II, on the other hand, is a series of specific subject tests such as History and Science.

The SAT score report will show the verbal and math sub scores on a scale of 200 (minimum) to 800 (maximum). There is no single answer to the question of what is a passing score -- students must contact the schools or institution that interest them to find out if they require a particular score.

Most undergraduate programs require SAT scores. Students must contact the schools they are applying to in order to determine whether those schools require an SAT score or other test scores.

You can register online for the SAT at the College Board's website: www.collegeboard.org. The College Board is not affiliated with Cambridge Educational Services.
